Create creatures that slither and slime---are any in your garden?

materials:
clay in assorted colors
non-porous work surface

procedure:
roll clay by hand into long 'ropes'
coil clay and build to desired shape
add facial features, stripes, designs, spots,
antennae, etc.

handy hints:
Use your clay creatures as a centerpiece for a garden tea party, or put one at each guest's place with a name card stuck into the clay. Older children may incorporate this into a discussion about the ecosystem and the benefit or harm done of displacing species or effects of habitat loss.
