Great project to focus on color, action, detail in describing a scene
or telling a story and learn about scale and for introducing children to
other cultural, lifestyle, literary and artistic traditions.

materials:
- Jazz paint in assorted colors
- Jazz gloss paint in gold
- 7" x 10" sheet of paper
- 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" sheet of paper
- wallpaper samples at least 8 1/2"x 11"
- pencil
- ruler
- assorted paint brushes, including fine tipped
- glue
- paint trays
- water
- newspaper

procedure:
- cover work area with newspaper
- using ruler, measure 1/2" border around 7" x 10" paper
- using pencil draw a small detailed picture
- paint large color expanses first and let dry
- paint in details and let dry
- paint in border with gold gloss paint
- mount finished painting onto 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" paper
- mount final work onto a piece of wallpaper

handy hints:
View and discuss examples of this type of artwork. Surfaces in the miniatures
are richly textured and patterned. The fine details are best done with fine
tipped brushes and using bright colors as well as white as an accent. |
